For years we were subjected to the trend of what some call throwaway clothes, that is clothes that were mass produced abroad so cheaply that it did not matter what the quality was like or whether they had to be thrown away after a few wears as they fell apart – not to mention the conditions that the workers who made them had to endure.
Thankfully things are changing now and that type of clothing for many is starting to become a little distasteful for financial and ethical reasons. More classic, good quality clothes such as camel coats, chinos and G-star jeans are coming back into fashion – although if truth be told they never actually went out of fashion.
We are now looking for something more durable in our wardrobe and we now look past whether they will last the season and in fact imagine ourselves wearing them for years to come and even passing them down to our children.
This approach may mean that we spend more on clothes at the outset but it works out cheaper in the long run as we have so much use from them.
Seasons change and fashions change but with a good set of staple items in our wardrobes we can accessorise and adapt our basics to whatever the new season throws at us.
